Hi there. I'm Jess. I'm 27 years young and I'm basically a mermaid. I grew up on the beach in Revere, Massachusetts. It's not that great of a city. I'm 88% Italian according to 23 and Me, and it's completely accurate because I am super loud and I talk with my hands a lot. I grew up very blue collar but I always had the best of everything. Life happened and once I got out of school I had to start working right away, but now things are better so I'm giving it the old college try... at college! (Puns are probably my favorite form of humor.)

Even as a child, you can clearly see I was always an eccentric dresser. Being an only child, the way I've dressed was always how I made friends. In my spare time, I like to glue rhinestones to various objects and make costumes for dance. Other than fashion, I'm super into concerts and festivals. I love dancing my heart out because it always makes me feel so good afterwords. I'm a bit of a geek and spend most of my internet time on Reddit. I've got over 30,000 karma! I'm also super into hip hop and that's basically the entire reason I took this seminar instead of the one for my major, oops.

My empathy is simultaneously my best and worst quality. Best, because a heart like mine is hard to find. Worst, because it makes me care for people and feel for people who wouldn't do the same for me and it always comes back to bite me. In my honesty box this summer, someone told me that they've never seen someone live the phrase "be yourself" so unapologetically and I would agree with that. I have always marched to the beat of my own drum, and probably why I am so into fashion. It's made life hard but I wouldn't have it any other way. Another adjective friends would use to describe me is woke. I'm not afraid to stand loud and proud for what I believe in, and I don't back down. I have such a big heart and I love everyone and I hate what's going on in this country. I just want everyone to live their best lives without anyone bothering them because of their gender, sexuality, race, religion, ice cream preference, anything.
I am unabashedly myself and I encourage others to be unabashedly themselves.

See you next week!

Jess,
ReplyDeleteExcellent first post. It is very well-written, fun, humorous (the jokes land well in writing), and you include lots of insightful details about your life so far.
I like the pace and tone of your voice in your writing. It's excited - and it's fun to read.
I also like the images you chose and how you spaced them out between each paragraph. It's important to have an image below each title, just to grab the attention of your potential readers. You did it here, so keep it up.
Suggestion for next week - play with spacing to create more space and organization. For instance, you have excellent captions for your images, but there is no space between the caption and the next paragraph. Use space to break it up and avoid any confusion.
Awesome work for a first post.
