Have the passion, take action, & the magic will happen
If I had to pick one thing I'm passionate about, I honestly couldn't pick because I'm insanely passionate about so many things. Food, art, dancing, music, sleep... I love them all so much and it drives me to learn as much as I possibly can and try as much of it as I possibly can. One thing I wish I could do every day for the rest of my life would be... nothing at all! I would love having the freedom to do, or not do, as I please. The freedom to explore all my passions at my leisure and not being beholden to society's hours. I consider myself a night owl, and even with all of the sleep in the world, I'm still so exhausted during the day (I don't like caffeine) but at night I have all of the energy in the world. I'm really into nightlife and clubbing and the social aspect (it's why I picked event planning major) and being a night owl really helps. On vacation in Miami last year, I went to a club called Space. This club is the type of club that opens at 10PM Saturday night and closes whenever they feel like it Sunday, usually after 12PM. We ended up leaving around 7am and the sun coming up outside on the terrace was such an amazing experience, nothing in New England can top it.
One of the reasons I started going to school at BHCC was because I wanted to start working in the nightlife and music festival industry. I have so much fun at those events, that I want to help other people have fun too. Networking is such a huge thing in this industry and I already have so many friends who own their own party/event companies that throw successful parties frequently around Boston, I know I'd have an internship and a job on lock once I'm done. I really love making things look good and I have such painstaking attention to detail, I believe I could use these skills into having the best creative ideas for themes and parties. Huge music festival companies such as Insomniac and Superfly have huge creative departments for their festivals and my dream would be to work for them.
I wouldn't only do nightlife and music festivals, I'd love to also do weddings and birthday parties. Social events like that. My hard work to make my clients have the best events and make memories to last a lifetime will be extremely fulfilling to me. I honestly don't really even want to get paid for the work I do around here, as it'll all be working towards my dreams of working for places like Disney or Superfly. One of the common things I've noticed while researching event planning, is that many consider a good event planner worth their weight in gold. The amount of stress they take off of their clients are akin to miracle workers. Being a 'miracle worker' for someone would be so insanely gratifying to me. I almost can't believe I didn't start down this path sooner.

Jess,
ReplyDeleteGreat post. You did a great job of weaving your passion for nightlife, art, and design with event planning. It's great to hear about which experiences (trips, etc) that have reinforced this passion for you. Sounds like you have the right network to start working towards this passion-related career. All very important.
This is well written. It's easy to follow, and your tone is sincere and firm. This career choice and major are also very specific. Your path may be more direct than it seems.
One thing to continue working on is your design. I like the images you chose here, but let's try to find some images that share a common theme (whether it be style, color, or similar in some way). At this point in the course, I'd like all students to consider their design and to continue to add, shape, and build a page that looks as appealing as their stories are.
Keep tinkering. Keep up the good work.
