Personal Legends

What is my life's mission?

I still don't know.

But if I really had to say, I'd say it is to chase happiness and love however I can. I've never really thought about what types of charitable causes I'd serve but I've always loved helping people, which is why I went into the hospitality program. Beyond that, I've loved making other people happy. Little acts of kindness can make some people's whole days. I tell my friends I love them every day, and I always try to build them up, especially when they are feeling low. I have some people on my Facebook I don't really know, but I've talked to every so often, and they have told me that I have really touched them and they don't really know me at all/we haven't met yet. It's such a wonderful feeling.

I want to leave behind a legacy of someone who was selfless, and loving despite her struggles. I could have been hardened by life at this point, but I am not and I'm glad. I like to channel that negative energy into things such as exercise and making my art. I find it incredibly freeing, and it's made me a better person, and better able to help my loved ones and those around me.

I think being an only child has given me a love for others that a lot of people just don't have innately. I know some will think we are selfish, but all that time alone gives you a certain type of lonliness others with siblings might not know, so the softer of us tend to love human interaction and everyone around us. It's a big reason why I try to be as sweet of a person as I can be to everyone. I want everyone to be my friend!

Hassan & I went to Miami last year and it was the most amazing thing.
I know we aren't supposed to be talking about material things... but one of the ways I serve the people I love is by spoiling them with gifts to show my appreciation for them. They're not always extravagent, sometimes it's as simple as bringing my boyfriend home a flower just to see him smile. My favorite holiday is Christmas, not because I like reciving gifts, but because I love giving. I cannot put into words the feeling I get when I see someone love something I've given them. I consider myself an excellent gift giver, because I really consider the person and I like to think outside of the box and give them things and experiences nobody else can. I got my boyfriend and I tickets to Bonnaroo this year, not really because I wanted to go, but because he loves it. I can't wait to see him smile and have the time of his life. I love the trips we take because seeing him have fun is so much fun for me.

I guess I just want to show the world, and the people around me, that I love them. Life is way too short not to. I'm so, so thankful for this life that I've been given, and I'm even more thankful for my loved ones. Without them, I wouldn't be half the person I am here. And I like to think I'm doing a good job. That's all I want in life. That's real success, in my opinion anyway.

  1. Jess,

Beautifully put, heartfelt piece here. I like the naturalness to your writing. It's very real/human/accessible. You make your mission a giving-focused mission, and that is something that you can channel in all sorts of aspects of your life.

From relationships to career. I think that you are on your personal legend by pursuing the event planning program. This seems to be a great channel for you to GIVE. You'll build, provide, and give each event/audience a passion-filled experience. Maybe they'll come away even more inspired. Maybe you'll make them feel exceptionally welcomed. At the least, they'll feel comfortable and supported.

This is a great mission. You can take this mission and channel it into many careers. I like that you are pursuing this. I think you are on the right track for success.

    Great quotes and images.

You're taking the right steps right now.
